Adelaide Convention Centre "Stage One" Posted on - Tuesday, March 24, 2015
The Adelaide Convention Centre expansion will re-affirm South Australia as one of the world’s premier conference destinations. The expansion will ensure the Adelaide Convention Centre maintains a competitive advantage in a demanding business events tourism market. The first stage is now complete and will open to the public in March 2015.
The new building has expanded westwards over the railway lines to link with Morphett Street Bridge. Stage Two of the redevelopment will replace the existing Plenary Building (home of the first Convention Centre in Australia in 1987) with a multi-purpose, state-of-the-art facility with plenary capacity of up to 3,500 seats, and is scheduled for completion in 2017. The striking design is inspired by the South Australian landscape and was put forward by Adelaide-based international architectural firm Woods Bagot in association with London-based international architect and Vx3 founder Larry Oltmanns. Adelaide Paringa provides budget style accommodation within close walking distance to the Adelaide Convention Centre.
